Big League Lawns reccomends cutting between 3-4 inches. The longer the blades of grass, the more sunlight is able to reflect, producing more defined results.
You do not have to worry about the roller traveling over any sort of concrete, asphalt, etc. The CheckMate™ striping kit is made of commercial-grade solid injection molded rollers that provide the kit with unbeatable durability and performance.
The roller is able to freely float up and down with the contours of the ground so if you have a hilly yard or uneven terrain or even have to go into a ditch, you will be just fine and the roller will not have any issues.
The Checkmate™ striping kits range in weight based on their size. Attempting to suspend significant weight can be dangerous. If the roller were to fall from a transport position it could easily injure and individual or even risk damaging the mower. Our alternative to a transport position is our quick release system which utilizes two stabilizer pins installed into custom mounting brackets with Lynch pins / click here. Removing the unit is as simple as removing the two Lynch pins and sliding the unit on or off.

Turf tear commonly occurs from the tire of a zero turn mower ‘pivoting’ on the mowers axis. The weight of the machine, plus the weight of the operator, places significant pressure on the pivoting tire and commonly tears or scuffs the turf. Therefore, it is always recommended that the operator utilize a simple three point turn. A three point turn is achieved by turning left or right at the end of your pass, reversing to align the mower for your next pass, and then proceeding to cut your next parallel stripe. Doing so virtually eliminates the operator from scuffing the turf with the tire or by sliding the attached CheckMate™ striping kit across the grass. When reversing the mower, you will not have any problems as the roller is always on the ground and is mounted at a shallow angle allowing the roller to freely reverse in conjunction with the mower.
